Hive Painting

I got the boys to help me decorate the hives. Toby painted a spider on his and Cam did a honeybee. Now we have one of a kind hives! Still have more painting to do though...

Progress!

Ooh look, I have a registered apiary now! Kind of funny because it doesn't even exist yet. Still waiting to hear back on the certification process. In the meantime, we've been painting coat after coat on the hives. Next we can do some decorating. If nothing else, they'll be very colorful! I've also been in touch with a couple of local beekeepers and I'm up to the letter L in the bee encyclopedia!

Hive Day

Jon made a run out to Tate's Honey Farm yesterday and got hives! We'll have to paint them next. We got several colors of paint today so that can be our project for the week. I got my jacket/hood outfit too. Cam's is on order. I also need to get some cinder blocks and 2x4s to set the hives on.

Bee Progress

Just over a month 'til the bees come!
Hive registration, check.
Beekeeper certification: pending. Just mailed it in today.
Next: get equipment. Jon might be able to go to the bee store this Saturday to pick it up. We'll work on the paint and other prep over the month. I'll need paint and supplies as well as something for the hive stand. Probably cinder blocks and 2x4's.
